Check eDirectory version and Time Synchronisation
Correct time synchronisation is important as eDirectory partitions are replicated and need to be concurrent with one another. Each event that occurs is marked with a timestamp; these timestamps are used to order the processing of events and changes that can occur on multiple servers.
The time synchronisation check is performed using the ndsrepair utility and should performed on a server that holds a replica of [Root], not necessary the master. It is carried out on such as server as it will be aware of all the servers in the tree.
For Solaris or Linux execute ndsrepair –T – login as root required This will report the time synchronisation of all the servers in the tree. If not all the servers in the tree are displayed it will be necessary to run this on those missing servers.
As a by product of running this command eDirectory versions are also displayed. The current version reported should be 10552.79.
This check should be run on a regular basis, and certainly before any partition operations are carried out. Recommendation is to run it daily.
